Day 11
This post will be light on photos as we spent the majority of the day at museums, and two of the three did not allow photography.
We first went to the Anne Frank House. I have always loved reading about the Great Wars, and it felt haunting to see the effects on civilian lifestyle in person.
The next museum on the list was the Van Gogh Museum. It was satisfying to see so many of his paintings in one place, and especially seeing him find his style - many of his first paintings were markedly different.
Sadly, some of his most famous paintings are on display elsewhere; The Starry Night is at the MoMA, while Cafe Terrace at Night was in Otterlo.
We stopped by a street market for a quick snack of stroopwafels and gözleme.
The final stop was the Rijksmuseum, where photography was allowed, but it felt odd to do so after refraining from the whole day.
As we were early for our dinner reservations, we tried different bakeries to see if any place was still selling orange tompouce... but we were out of luck.
We headed to Restaurant Blauw to try rijsttafel, Dutch-style Indonesian food. Having so many dishes in front of you was gratifying, but honestly I didn't feel that full. It seemed you got the same amount despite ordering a single serving or one for three people, so it didn't feel it was worth the money. Some of the dishes were a hit or miss; being spoiled by growing up around Asian food, I found it rather mediocre. However, compared to the blandness of traditional Dutch food, I could see why it would be popular.
