Den v Praze

Day 15

We hopped on the train to Praha hlavní nádraží. Here is where the first word of caution comes - either convert your money before you come, or do it at trusted places recommended by locals. The one at the train station overcharges, and there is even a sign beside it saying to do it at 'trustworthy' places that makes you think they would be one.

We did not have access to a phone, so there was trouble with check-in at the apartment we had rented. This resulted in us having to ask the Chinese restaurant next door if we could use their phone - and so, we ate terrible Chinese food for our first meal in Prague.

This busy square was milling with people; imagine our surprise when a couple dressed in wedding finery showed up with a horse, carriage, and photographer in tow. The backdrop definitely makes for gorgeous wedding photos, but I can't imagine wanting all those crowds in your memories.

Another interesting sight was the beggars; they kneel on the ground and put their arms and even head on the ground, either holding a tin or with one in front of them. It was definitely a first for me.

Our dinner was more Bohemian; I got goulash with dumplings (sliced white bread) while the rest of the table got roast duck and platters.

Prague ended up being the most disappointing stop during the trip. The city is beautiful, there's no doubt about that. But as a relatively new tourism destination, the government really needs to crack down on the craziness. I don't even remember Paris being this terrible. It was a shame that the crowds, the scams, and the attitudes of many people really dulled the enjoyment of the beautiful city.
