Lake Taupo

After dropping off a majority of our luggage in Auckland, we hit the road towards Taupo.

We drove along rolling hills of green, and arrived at Huka Falls. We went for lunch nearby at Hub Kitchen, and we all agreed that it was a great improvement from last night's meal.

We made our way over to the docks, and with some difficulty, we were able to find the sailboat taking us to see the Maori rock carvings in Mine Bay.

The cruise included pizza and drinks; fresh from Dominoes, there was a box per person. We didn't realize this, and despite just finished a hearty meal, the novelty of it all had us reaching for a slice.

Someone's claws grabbing for some beer and L&P.

The rock carvings.

We leisurely made our way back, and a lot of the group started falling asleep under the warm sun. This was honestly my absolute favourite type of day; a clear spring day with sunshine, a cool breeze, and the soft rocking of waves against the boat. The wind started to die on the way back, and we started drifting too much, so the engine had to be turned on to get us back to the docks.

Unfortunately, our boating adventures took up the entire afternoon, and when we arrived to Craters of the Moon, it had already closed. We went back to Huka Falls to walk around the area.

We had about twenty minutes until the parking lot closed, so we hurried around. I discovered these tropical-looking trees and weaved leaves while wandering away from the falls.

We stopped by a lookout point, but it wasn't exactly high enough to offer a proper view.

We checked into our hostel, and I ended up nabbing my own room. It was the size of a closet, but having had no personal space since leaving Seoul, I was gleefully excited.

We walked down to the lakeside in search of a restaurant for dinner.

None of us were particularly hungry, so we decided to get a lighter meal, and proceeded to order way too much curry - really, we never learn.
