Souvenirs

When I first moved out, I finally had full control over what my space would look like, and was the only one who could change, destroy, or add to the space. My home became my sanctuary, my place to retreat where only the things I wanted to surround myself with remained.

One of the hardest adaptations when adopting a cat was the addition of a disruptive and destructive roommate. My space was no longer wholly my own, my cherished mementos destroyed, my sleep interrupted, my peaceful silence broken.

While the adjustment is ongoing and evolving, it has reminded me to be less precious about material things and embrace the encroachments on the world I had built up in my mind. A reflection of that has been the recent souvenirs gifted from my many friends who travelled to Japan last year... When asked what I wanted, I asked for a pair of chopsticks, and this is the collection thus far. After you have one cat, you cannot escape the cat lady associations!

I welcome and appreciate all the different souvenirs bestowed upon me... it is also interesting to see how others view me through their choices.
