This was our last day with our Jeep Cherokee - we dropped off one of our quartet at the airport in Portland and drove up to Seattle. We dropped off the car at the airport and took the train to the city.
After being in so many hot places (with the exception of SF), the gloomy, chilly weather that greeted us in Seattle was a bit of shock. Apparently just before we arrived, the weather had been warm and sunny, but the true climate of Seattle was what had greeted us.
We finally checked into our first hotel/hostel after a string of Airbnb's, and were thankfully in the city centre. I met up with one of my friends who recently moved to the city, and while we didn't know it then, off we went for a walking tour of area.
Pike Place Market was insanely packed with tourists - I don't know why I didn't expect this, but it seemed to be one of the most crowded tourist attractions of our whole trip. After a quick visit to the gum wall, I was ready to head to the next place.
The Space Needle and Museum of Pop Culture were definitely iconic places to see.
The Chihuly Garden and Glass was also nearby and the area was packed with families enjoying their Saturday.
We then walked over to the University of Washington and walked around University Village. As the line for Din Tai Fung was insane, we decided to go to Molly Moon's for ice cream.
The total walking time of this journey was about 3 hours of walking and over 7 miles (or 11 km). A very productive no car day. My friend didn't want to walk back so we took an Uber home.
The next morning we headed out early to Lake Union to reserve a spot for free sailing; then we headed to Serious Pie and Biscuit for a very American breakfast. We walked over to the Olympic Sculpture Park before I made a very bad decision to get a London Fog before sailing.
Sailing was great - the owner and a sail instructor was thankfully on hand to keep us afloat.
We spent the rest of the day browsing and eating, and thus concluded our stay in Seattle.
